Arts and Crafts
Documents within this industry cover a range of products, including crepe paper, sewing machines, sewing patterns, embroidery yarns and crayons. Companies featured include Tavaro S. A., Dennison Manufacturing Co., McCall Corporation and Darlan and largely cover the primary concern for companies across the industries; how to maximise sales through advertising. McCall Corporation, for example, commissioned a report which sought to explore how to increase its market share: A motivational research study on competitive sales opportunities and problems of McCall's patterns.
Swiss companies such as Tavaro S.A. were prominent sewing machine manufacturers and commissioned reports seeking to better understand international markets, such as A motivational research study of sewing machines in the United States and Final report on a study about "Elna" sewing machines in Holland and Flemish Belgium. Hand knitting yarn producer Darlin commissioned a report which sought, among other things, to determine how good its product was perceived to be and thus how to price it in Pilot motivational research study on Darlan hand knitting yarns. The majority of these documents are marketed towards women and walk an interesting line between leisure and practical domestic activity.
